2019 Foundation Programme in Design Thinking

The Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking at UCT (d-school) would like to invite registered students from institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa for another exciting 12 week, extended introduction to Design Thinking. Students are also eligible to apply a year after graduating. The age limit is 35.

The Foundation Programme in Design Thinking is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all over South Africa, who are interested to learn life and career skills to prepare them for the future. Participants will be exposed to the following skills:

  • Critical thinking and human-centered innovation
  • Abductive reasoning for creative problem-solving skills
  • Collaboration in diverse and multidisciplinary teams
  • Empathetic approach to problem solving
  • Build creative confidence
  • Social and cross-cultural skills

Participants need to be able to commit two days a week (09:00-17:00 on a Monday and a Wednesday), over a period of 12 weeks, starting on 25 February - 24 May 2019.

You will learn to apply design thinking tools and techniques on a real world challenge, provided to us by Partners from the Public sector, Private sector, Academia and the NGO space. And will bring guests in to provide insights into how, what we are learning is relevant across sectors in SA.

Successful applicants from out of Cape Town would be required to make their own travel, accommodation and living arrangements to attend the programme in Cape Town.

The course has a market-related value of R144,000 but successful applicants will pay only R1,500. The application deadline is 12:00 on 3 February 2019. (Please note the deadline has been extended from 27 January).
