  • South African Radio Astronomy Observatory Undergraduate and Honours Block Grants Programme Call for Applications for 2019 SARAO will consider applications from university departments that propose to support undergraduate and/or honours students studying any of the following degrees: · Bachelor of Electronic Engineering. · Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. · Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. · Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering. · Bachelor of Computer Engineering. · Bachelor of Science in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics and Physics. · Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics. · Bachelor of Science in Astronomy / Astrophysics and Physics. · Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics. · Bachelor of Science - Honours - Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Computer Science. · Bachelor of Science – Honours – NASSP (National Astrophysics and Space Programme). A SARAO Undergraduate and Honours Block Grant includes funds for undergraduate/honours bursaries, as well as student academic support and development.   • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

     

    Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Be at least 25 years old at time of application deadline (see specific regional program application below);
    • Be a national of a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List (except for the Trinity Washington University program);
    • Be enrolled (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution when submitting application; and plan to be enrolled for a full academic term after award of the grant by the Board;
    • Not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund or Inter-American Development Bank staff member or spouse;

    PROGRAMS

    SOUTH AFRICA

    Applications for Africa program are accepted from May 15 - September 14. Queries may be addressed to southafrica@mmeg.org during this period. Decisions will be announced by December.

    In addition to the above criteria, an applicant must: 

    already be enrolled part time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) or full time at one of the universities listed below, and be enrolled for the following academic year (January to December or September to May) at one of the following universities:

    • University of the Witwatersrand,
    • University of Cape Town
    • University of Stellenbosch
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of the Free State

    Applicants applying from eligible countries other than South Africa must already hold a study permit for South Africa.

    Estimated expenses should be calculated and expressed in Rand

    Remember to read the Application Checklist & FAQs before applying and select the   "Africa program" in the first question of the application. If the program name  does not appear, the program may be closed to new applications.

    APPLY (SOUTH AFRICA)

    US & CANADA

    In addition to the above criteria, an applicant must: 

    • already be enrolled as a full time student, with relevant student visa in national passport, and plan to continue studying full time in the following academic year;
    • not hold US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status

    Remember to read the Application Checklist & FAQs before applying, and select the   "US-Canada program" in the first question of the application. If the program name  does not appear, the program may be closed to new applications.

    Applications are accepted between September 15 - January 15. Queries may be addressed to  mmeg.us.canada@gmail.com during this period. Decisions for the academic year 2017-2018 have been announced and the recipients contacted.


    TRINITY WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY                      

    In addition to the above criteria, an applicant must: 

    • already be enrolled as a full time student at Trinity Washington University, and plan to continue studying full time in the following academic year;
    • not be related to Trinity staff
    • US citizens or permanent residents can also apply

    Remember to read the Application Checklist & FAQs before applying, and select "Trinity program" in the first question of the application. If the program name does not appear, the program may be closed to new applications.

    Apply between September 15 and January 15. Queries may be addressed to mmeg.trinity@gmail.com during this period. Decisions for the academic year 2017-2018 have been announced and the recipients contacted.

    Education grants are awarded to women from developing and middle-income countries who, upon obtainment of their degree, intend to return to or remain in their countries, or other developing countries, and work to improve the lives of women and/or children.

    We encourage MMEG recipients to inform other students about our grant, and to network with other recipient alumnae.
